Off Course
I just moved over to kiss his lips softly and started to work. We finished the shelter within minutes and had a lifetime to worry about the incoming storm. In the very back of my mind, there was Kahn.
Me: What if he gets hurt?
Mike: Demi, he hurt you. But don’t worry about him, he can take care of his scumbag self.
I sighed, snuggling into Mike as the wind picked up and the trees seemed to rock above us. We put up a fire closer to the shelter and moved inside. Mike warmed me by wrapping his arms around me and I settled in his lap.
Me: Mike?
Mike: Yeah?
Me: What if no one finds us? What if we are stuck here forever?
I was close to crying from desperation. Mike placed his hands on my cheeks to calm me.
Mike: Someone will find us.
Me: Are you sure?
Mike: No. But there are ways to show up on tracking charts. We crashed about a week or two ago so people have been looking. They’ve just been looking wrong. What I mean is, we are way off course from the plane route.
Me: Is that bad?
Mike: Yes.
