The scene changed to one of Roln and his son (Fen – Moondust’s father) meeting with Styrene the serpent witch. Styrene secretly taught the two of them in exchange for blood donations. During the teachings Roln and Fen were shown kneeling beside a dark pool that became blood red. Then they went back to the stables with dull pale faces, looking like zombies.

Styrene plotted with Roln and Fen to spellbind a Corvus bird to rescue his family and take them away from the land of the Lortai.

The next scene depicted her father Fen scaling a rocky cliff. It showed him stopping his ascent momentarily to look earthward like a bird perched on the side of a rocky canyon. The sky was dark and mist obscured the horizon as he stood over the edge of the cliff. Beyond the northern skyline, he could just make out his distant homeland amidst the wayward rivers.
