If Moondust had known what was going to happen next, she would have first closed her eyes. Fen dismounted the corvus atop a rocky crag and ran to the stables to meet Roln. As Fen met his mother, father, and sisters at the stable, Roln told his wife Mia to take the other children inside. The next scene showed Fen lying dead with a Lortai arrow in his side and a 7 year old Moondust screaming and crying beside her dead father.

“You and I were beside him in those last moments,â€? said Roln. The ghostly figure was gone now and Roln appeared human. “Everything is alright, Moondust. Sleep and I will anoint you with many powers.â€?

Moondust began weeping. “Sleep? But Grandfather how can I sleep? Are you alive? How are you here?â€? And then she collapsed beside the glowing candles.

When she awoke, Rogue was beside her. The sky was black and clear and the moon was close to the mountains. There in the cool moments before twilight they lay near the now unlit candles as her dog Rogue warmed her.
