Realization

My mouth flapped open once or twice like I was a fish, but no sound came out. Tom looked at Mendez but Mendez just shrugged and walked out of the room. Great. He was always doing that – coming in at inopportune moments and then leaving when I actually needed him.

“What’s going on, Jordan?”

I quickly pulled my shirt back over my head. “You might want to direct that question at your ‘wittle baby girl.’”

Tom crossed his arms and did his best to look intimidating. His dark brows furrowed over his narrowed blue eyes. It was a pretty impressive display, I have to admit.

“What did you do to Jodi?”

“What did I – dude, haven’t you noticed she’s always hanging around me lately? Plus she’s been all affectionate with me.”

“Jodi’s a real affectionate girl,” he said, trying to brush it off.

“Yeah, but how many of her guy friends do you see being Frenched by her?”

I realized two things after saying this: firstly, maybe that wasn’t the best choice of words, and secondly, it looked like Tom was falling for her, too.
