Their Undivided Attention

The fiery pastor swayed rhythmically as he preached, his arm gesticulations emphasizing his rambling tangents. The congregation of First Baptist Montgomery, bathed his points with an amen chorus. Every once in a while Dr. Barry stopped and looked someone directly in the eyes to drop a bombshell.

Dr. Barry chose a victim, a scorching glare, penetrating deep into his soul.

“John Richards, you will go to hell in a hand basket, if you don’t repent your secret sin, son!”

“Amen!” shouted Delores Fletcher, a little too loudly.

Several other church members echoed her sentiment.

Under her breath Myrtle Jones said to Sandra Meeks, “Bet she has some first hand experience of his secret sin.”

Everything was as it always was. That was until a group of masked assailants burst into the sanctuary flashing semi-automatic weapons.

“Everybody on the floor!” Tim shouted.

Chaos ensued. That was until Tim opened fire on Dr. Barry, who fell awkwardly behind the blood-stained pulpit. That got their undivided attention.
