An Unholy Calling
John was intently listening to the young man when he suddenly noticed that both he and the man in the suit were now half-human, half-demon beings – similar in size and appearance. John was only vaguely aware of any difference.
“So where are we?” he asked, moderately confused.
The being that had been the older man spoke. “Heaven and Hell, if you will, are dimensions. This is another dimension.”
After a pause, John continued. “How many dimensions are there?”
“Too many for it to matter,” said the other being.
“Everyone should end up in either a Heaven or a Hell, but many do not,” said the older being. “Many end up here and in other dimensions, for various reasons. You were destined for your Hell.”
John’s expression must have dropped, because the younger being chimed in.
“Heaven and Hell are not what you imagine,” he said. “But it’s no matter – I’ve decided I can use you.”
“For what?” asked John.
“Everyone here is in the wrong place,” said the being. “Someone has to set that straight.”
