Petrified
Kyle was frozen.
“Are you just gonna stand there?” Maria asked, sarcastically before becoming petrified herself.
The room looked like it had been hit by a twister. Someone had cleared the desktop hastily, spilling its contents to the floor. A gun and a ski mask were in the midst of all the rubble. A wounded man was resting on the desk, while another man stitched him up. Their heads snapped up. Maria almost fainted, that couldn’t be…
“What in damnation are you doing here!?” Dr. Barry exploded.
“We could ask you the same thing!” Kyle shot back.
“Luke, get ahold of the situation.”
Luke and Kyle sized each other up, each eying the gun lying on the floor. They pounced simultaneously, diving to the ground.
Luke got there a split second earlier than Kyle. But Kyle wasn’t going for the gun.
With a roll and a handspring, he was behind Dr. Barry with a letter opener to his throat before Luke got his finger to the trigger.
“Drop it!” Kyle ordered. “And kick it this way! You have some explaining to do.”
