Buckle Up, Ladies

“Do I have a choice?” Kate said, slamming her Cosmo on the bar. “As if the car accident weren’t enough excitement for today! You decided to get drunk and now you’re telling me you won’t leave until we do this? I’ll go, but when I get you home, we’re done!”

They walked out of the restaurant and right to the flight line, passing a glass enclosure where a man wearing a parka waved them onward.

“Let’s go,” Trax said. He unlatched the door to the jet and led Kate and Susan to their seats. Steve Greenlee came in behind, pulling up the steps and latching the door with a twist of the handle.

“All set, ladies?” Steve asked with a grin. “I promise – no loops today!”

“He’s kidding, right?” Kate said, her eyes widened.

“Of course,” he said. “It’s a routine check ride – Trax is
gonna show me his handiwork and how to operate the new stereo system!” He smiled and made an air guitar motion.

“Can we just take off?” Kate said, rolling her eyes.

“Gotta buckle up first – it’s the law in the air too, you know.”
