I like this but I was a little confused as to whom we are following, Marcie or the homeless lady with the can. I understand that the attention is on both. I am guilty of the same thing, especially when using characters of the same gender within the limitations. It’s very clear in my mind but I have a hard time getting it across to my readers. Other than that, great storyline. Can’t wait to see where you take it! :)

Nice set up, and I think Jenunique is on the mark. Pronoun use can get tricky. Still, I liked the measured, consistent pace of it all.
