Hand-in-Hand
The next day, Lilly and Brian walked into school hand-in-hand. Madison’s mouth dropped; Kate smiled wide; and the rest of the school looked on with curious expressions. But Brian and Lilly were oblivious to all of these things, too caught up with each other.
“So are you ready for the prom tonight?” Brian asked Lilly as they reached the lockers.
“Completely. I can’t wait.” She replied.
“Great. So, um I’ll come by around 8. And I got us a limo and um a group of people are riding with us.”
“Brian what’s wrong?”
Brian fidgeted and replied, “Madison is one of those people. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. It’s just, I was inviting people and I didn’t know it was her until after she walked away and I could cancel her if you want.”
“Brian, Brian calm down. It’s ok, really. I don’t mind at all.” Lilly smiled wide and he relaxed.
“Good. Because I was just, you know, worried but if it’s ok…”
“It’s fine. Now we’re about to be late for class.”
“Let’s go.” He squeezed her hand as they continued down the hall.
