Nightly Tradition

Shriek into the night as long and loud as you can. Scream until your vocal cords unwind and lay themselves on the carpet, tired of serving you and your angry whims. Then, watch them crawl away and hide from you. Scream some more, silent and open. Don’t scream out of fear, scream out of loneliness. Fear is forgivable, as shadows rearrange themselves on bedroom walls and reach toward you, ever closer.

Close your eyes tight against these fears, these monsters, but do not scream. That scream is a scream of correction of the mind- a reflex, to save oneself from impending doom. A scream of sheer loneliness is one that endures far longer than any yelp of terror. A soul-wringing, tear-filled howl that will haunt the very nightmares of those around you with its echoing loneliness for the rest of their sleepless night.

Shout yourself into silence, and let the wind fall to acknowledge your superiority in noise. Do not stop for a second, because you must scream to make them understand. You must, or you’ll be forgotten.
