Observance
We stand in line,
All with the same dread in our minds,
I turn away,
I can’t look anymore.
I look into her eyes,
And have an instant understanding,
Of the loss now in her life,
After all, I feel it too.
A comforting hand reaches out,
I throw it away.
I look down again,
But still I turn away.
The look of disbelief in our eyes,
The sudden realization.
Another moves on,
Making way for the new.
I reached out for your hand,
But I cannot touch.
You’ve left this world,
But I still had things to say.
