A Quiet Train

He rested his head gently upon the window of this drab passenger car as it rumbled down the tracks. Lightly he entertained the question of where he was headed; had there been any other passengers he might have asked. Instead, alone as he was, he continued to gaze quietly out the window.

The clouds seemed to mock him as they hid the sun. How long had it been since he last saw it, and more pressingly just how far from home had he traveled? It struck the man as funny that he wanted to return home equally as much as he wanted to flee from it.

As he let himself entertain a smile for the first time in what might just as well have been years, he became aware that he was no longer alone in the car. A tall and beautiful blond haired woman had sat across from him as he lost himself in the scenery and his own thoughts.

Fear filled him as his eyes raised up to look at this woman, who was now entirely too close for his comfort. Warmly, kindly, menacingly she smiled.

“You didn’t think you’d gotten away, did you?”
