The Pillar - The Gorged Predator
It hung motionless in the void, its jagged outline drawing an obsene line against the majesty of the sky. Twinkles of light…windows…littered its alien hull. It had the look of a predator, gorged on a kill. Resting, but still alert.
Next to it was its prey. Lifelessly listing in an uncontrolled fall toward nothing. It was dead.
A beam of light the color of television static jumped from the monster and swept over the pathetic ruin several times. Small explosions rocked the hulk, not strong enough to split the ship, but sending plating and glass hurtling into space.
The beam changed shades, like being refracted through a prizm. It cycled through the spectrum at intense speeds, coming to rest on a cold shade of blue.
The explosions stopped. The beam vanished. It just hung there…still.
Then, as suddenly as the beast had appeared, it vanished in a blinding flash, leaving the wreck to the cold of space.
