When Todd Knott woke from his medically induced sleep, he immediately noticed the change in the motion of the ship. Orion class transports were smooth vessels. The Ion-driven engines that propelled the ship up to the speed of light were soundless, and even after the Ion engines shut down and the warp engines started, there was little noticeable vibration. The only exception to this was when the ship was decelerating, then, a low, rough vibration could be felt throughout the ship.

“The braking boosters are on” Todd said to himself as he rubbed his eyes and tried to stretch. He could only stretch a little though, the straps that held him in his sleeping pouch restricted much of his movement.

The sound and vibration of the boosters were not the only way he cold tell the ship was decelerating, the feeling of g-force pulling both him and the pouch towards the bottom of the sleeping pod was the surest way to tell. A survey of the computer panels above him showed that the “Remain Secured” icon was still on.
