Britney shrunk inside at Jared’s sharp words and started fiddling with the radio controls, but it seemed like no matter what she did Jared just got more annoyed.
First, she found a hip-hop station, knowing he loved hip-hop. And he started fidgeting angrily, probably needing another fix, before going into a tirade about having a raging headache.
Then, she accidentally turned the radio too loud, an honest mistake. He slammed on the breaks, causing the car behind them to swerve violently to avoid a pileup.
“Get your hands off the radio!” Jared barked.
“Sorry, jeez. I didn’t mean any harm…” her voice trailed off.
“That’s the problem! You never mean to screw up, but you’re always screwing up!”
“I’m sorry if I’m not the perfect partner in crime, Jared!” she said sadly, as she opened the door and slammed it behind her.
She didn’t know why she was running along the interstate, but it was calming her. Jared trailed her slowly. “Get in the car, Brit. We have a heist to plan. And I can’t do it without you.”
