The Key

He walked slowly between the stalls of cotton candy, smelling the sticky sweet air. A child brushed past him, crying about her lost doll. The people moving by were like a river, not caring about him, carving their path along the river bank.

A key droped from the sky. He bent down to pick it up, and yet the moment he touched it the key vanished. It appeared again on the table next to him. He reached for it, and again, it dissapeared. A child nearby was eating a hotdog when the key appeared on her head. He made a mad swipe at her, causing the child to scream. By the time people had stopped staring, the key was gone. He looked around, but could not see it anywhere.

As he walked home that night, the key casually slipped in and out of his mind. Several times, he thought he saw it, but alas, it was just a trick of the sunset.
