Just A Little Rainy Day Bag

I outlined my plan to Cynthia. I had tried to make it as painless (Ha!) as possible for all involved.
Me: So, I figured we’d stay here for three days, long enough for your dad to realize you’re serious, but not so long that they’d go insane… My mom, for instance, can’t last past a week. She’d have to be put in an asylum.
I grinned to show her I was kidding. She gave a weak smile, lost in thought. I stood and walked towards her. Me: Now does that sound ok? Because if you don’t want to do this we can go back right now, or anytime, if you want. Don’t worry about me. All I want is you to be happy, ok?
She looked up at me, leaning inward. I let my lips touch hers, and we kissed for a brief instant. I looked down into her eyes; they were shining with an emotion I couldn’t quite define.
Her: So, are we just going to sit here for three days?
I laughed. Me: Are you kidding? Cynthia, welcome to the rainy day bag.
