Wendell The Parrot
Wendell the parrot sat prominently on his perch. He was basking in the afternoon sun. The rays gently warmed his vibrantly colored feathers.
Two children walked up to him, sitting on his perch. They walk up cautiously being careful not to spook this large bird.
The little boy looked up at the parrot. “Wow that’s a huge birdâ? He said to his cousin. “Faye, do you think this bird can talk?â? Timmy asked his cousin. “Who knows?â? Was Faye’s reply, considering her cousins question.
A couple of minutes later the bird acknowledged their presence. He looked at them slowly with his beady eyes. At first he would move his beak in crunching noises. Suddenly, without provocation, the bird begun to make noise. At first it sounded like a few chirps. Then it became almost decipherable. “Wha..tya.. oooinâ? The bird squawked in a low tone.
The two children just look at each other in amazement. “Birrdiee cann you heearr meee?â? Timmy said attempting to communicate with the bird. Wendell just looked at him and then looked away.
