Spit It Out

Becca was infuriated. She could be spending time with Jameson. He was about to kiss her, after all. Instead, she was in the middle of one of the filthiest bathrooms she’d ever seen, waiting for her friend to explain herself.

“Jeez, Sassy,” Becca finally said. “I’ve never seen you at such a loss for words. Spit it out!”

“Okay,” Sassy finally managed, her voice slightly quivering, “You know our doomsday scenario, right?”

“Oh, shit, no! When? Why didn’t you tell me!?”

“Last summer, no one knows about it. I couldn’t bring myself to tell anyone – not even you.”

“Who was it?”

“It was… Paul. And he tossed me out like trash. No friend of his…” Sassy trailed off. “You have to promise me you won’t date his friend. Can you believe that asshole didn’t even recognize me?”

Sassy unleashed a torrent of tears. Becca was reeling. She wanted to comfort and reassure her friend, but she had been trying to get Jameson’s attention all semester. She was suddenly sick. She pushed her way to the toilet and vomited.
