Harmony

We were silent for a moment, the strange light in his eyes fading. He looked at me again, his eyes curious, “Can I ask you one more thing?”
“Sure,” I replied, curious. It was frustrating not being able to read his thoughts.
“When the Magistrates found us,” he began.
“Yes?”
“Well, one of them looked like… like a human,” he spat out, his nose wrinkling in disgust.
I grinned, “Oh, her. Yes that’s Materia. We’re trying to avoid a war, but it’s still a possibility. If that occurs, a lot of humans will die in the process, so we decided it’s only fair they have some representation. Our idea is, after all, to have everyone live in harmony.”
He digested this for a moment, and then frowned, “A bit hard for a Vampire to live in harmony with humans.”
I sighed, “True, but they’re not allowed to use the kill… or the conversion, for that matter, unless under extreme circumstances.”
“Right,” he said disgustedly, “It’s just knocking a bunch of people out and drinking their blood.Totally peaceful and harmonious.”
