In Memoriam
The six of us are gathered at the Vietnam Memorial Wall. We come here every year, to pay our respects to our grandfather. I never met him personally, however, I feel like I have known him my whole life. Grandma always speaks so fondly of him. I grew up hearing stories, about his heroic efforts, over there in Vietnam.
When we come here, Daddy always kneels at the wall and cries. He talks to granddaddy, and he tells him how much he misses him. We all do. We say prayers, and silently thank him, for what he has done for our family, and our country.
Before we leave. We place a single Red rose by his name.
You will find a rose below the name Charles W Covington Jr. We have a saying in our family. The Covingtons never forget.
Grandpa Covington was a wonderful man. He was a respected person. In our Texan town, he was admired and adored. He died with dignity, as he attempted to rescue his best friend. Who died in his arms.
Grandpa we will never forget you!
