The Love That Lasts

We were a family, picture perfect, easily framed.
Then you left us, me, for something better,
Leaving an empty space,
A hole in my heart.
And Mother got married, and Chris went to college.
And Bruce isn’t too bad, but he doesn’t

Fill the space,
Or fix the hole.
What happened to “true love lasts”?
Or the “I do’s” on the alter?
They don’t matter,
Not to you, or Mother, or even Chris.
But they matter to me.
It seems like I’m the only person who remembers,
When you left us behind to go to “a better place”,
Just to sit there, looking down,
From Heaven,
At the family you tore apart.

Papa, I still love you…
