Remembering Dreams

I scowled as Mom got her address. I wasn’t about to hang around as Paige destroyed my life so I went upstairs, feeling a pang of guilt as Mom watched me leave. Her eyes were filled with worry.
Even though I turned my iPod up as loud as it could go, I couldn’t block out the voices in my head, imagining what they were saying down there. Were they talking about me? Was Paige still there? Without realizing it, I fell asleep.

She was smiling at me softly, the way she used to. “Drew,” she whispered, “I love you,” her voice hissed through the grass. We were lying in a golden field, the contrast between her hair and the grass was striking. It swirled around her as the wind began to blow. “Drew…” she whispered one last time and faded….

When I woke up I was crying, and I didn’t know if I had just started or if I’d been crying all through the dream.
I lay on the bed silently, waiting for morning to come.
