Not Enough To Live
They sat in the dark with their hands clasped together and she stared into Matt’s eyes, and all that went through her mind was how she could never imagine life without him. And as he looked into Angela’s eyes, the only thing he could think was how hard it was going to be to have to break her heart. She had enough to deal with, especially since they still hadn’t found out if Matt’s surgery would be enough to save his life.
“Matt,” she started, “I have to-”
“Angela, wait,” Matt interrupted, because he knew what she wanted to say.
“No, I’ve been wanting to tell you something and if I don’t do it now, I won’t for a long time,” Angela pleaded.
“I know, I have to say something, too,” Matt said, cursing himself for not saying it right then as the hopeful smile spread across her face, “Look, when we found out-”
“Matt, no. I want to go first,” Angela whispered, scared now that he hadn’t said what she expected. They looked into each others eyes again.
“I love you.”
“I’m not going to make it.”
