Quicksand
They sat there in an awkward silence, staring straight ahead, afraid to look at each other. Finally, Chris broke the silence with,”So…where are you going?”
She glanced over at him.She wasn’t sure whether it was safe to tell anyone, even a really hot, seemingly nice guy.But then again, on the odd chance that her mom did manage to find every single person riding this bus, how likely was it that he would remember her? It’s not like she was exactly a remarkable person.Looking over at him(while trying to avoid the quicksand of his eyes), she replied,”I’m going to New York, actually. To…to visit my uncle. He’s sick and I…promised my aunt I’d help out with the kids while she took care of him.”
“Oh, that’s really cool of you,” he said, looking a little surprised that she’d so willingly offered information.”Actually, I’m going to New York too. But, see, I live there. I go to NYU . I just went home for a bit, now I’m going back. “
“Wow,”she whispered, finally daring to look back into his eyes.He was perfect.
