Tripped into the Mud

I was so happy when I heard she’d tried out for cross country. Well, that’s and understatement. I was ecstatic.
And when she started talking to me, well, that was just more than fantastic.
That’s one of the things that fascinates me about her. She approached me first. She’s totally trying to keep up with my State-record pace, even though there’s no way she’s going to be able to keep this up for too much longer. She’s so daring, so courageous. She’ll go up to anyone and just talk to them. I wished that maybe, maybe she would like me… as more than just a friend. It wasn’t likely. She could pick from any guy in school, why me?
Everything was going pretty great until I had to go be a moron and trip her. Right into a damn mud puddle too.Way to blow it, dude.
“Are you ok?” I asked fearfully, instantly stopping to help her up.
As I helped her up, I was shocked to see her smiling, “I’m great, really.”
She must have been trying to make me feel better. She was covered in mud. I can’t believe I tripped her.
