Remembering Emptiness

I didn’t really know why I’d asked the question. The curiousity just bubbled over and it came out. I hoped she didn’t understand exactly what I was asking. She grinned, “My bedroom is tourquoise.”
Inwardly, I cursed myself. of course she would know exactly what I was asking. “Oh,” I heard myself saying, “I expected purple.”
She shook her head, “That’s the guest bedroom. It’s symbolic, you know?” I didn’t know. She sighed, “Like, you’ll be treated as royalty when you stay as a guest here… because purple symbolizes royalty.”
Oh. Ok. Weird. She stared at me for a moment and then pulled out the books. “So where were we?” she asked.
Great, time for my tutoring lesson.

Time passed, fairly uneventfully. I got used to Paige’s constant presence, and it even ceased to annoy me now. I was begining to figure out how to tune her out, just like everything else. I was getting back to empty Drew. Paige seemed oblivious, and I ignored her as she babbled at school or at my house where she occasionally popped up.
