Numbers pop up in funny places (IV)

Stepping into the hallway, Johnson took a deep breath, he wasn’t scared of elevators, but that one did a good job of sending a chill down his spine. He looked around the floor, and found a sign, it had two arrows pointing in the directions of where the apartments should be, over the years the numbers had all fallen off or peeled away, so he was left to guess which way to walk. Johnson chose left, and began his search for apartment number seven. He passed a series of unnumbered doors, each one more tattered and ragged then the last, his frustration was beginning to grow “How the hell will I ever find this place?â€? he said to himself. As he reached the end of the hallway, he noticed the dim outline of what once looked like a seven, he could barely tell if it was his imagination, or the lighter patch of dirt was simply were the number badge had once been before being stripped off. Taking a deep breath, Johnson knocked, and waited.
