I was in the middle of writing a sequel before you posted this. And I totally had him sitting down at a bench next to a water fountain looking at the ads. I was going for a CompuServe ad though. One issue I have though is that Burning Chrome was from the July 1982 issue of Omni. William Gibson didn’t have a short story in the June 1984 issue. Am I being too picky now? http://www.hycyber.com/SF/omni_index.html
@John… oops! I didn’t mean to bust your sequel… sorry and I’m so busted on the Gibson part but hey, it’s fiction, er, um ficlets! I’m not going to post anything again till tomorrow so have at the story… this was as far ahead as I had thought of.
No problem busting the sequel, I just thought it was funny how similar our opening paragraphs were. I had also thought about sending him into an arcade, but had not got that far into my typing yet, so who knows what I would have had him do. If I have time tonight, and can pull myself away from GTAIV , I’ll bust something out.
I seem to have drank too much beer and played too much Rockband. Sigh. Anyway, John…you research your critique, man! I couldn’t even pick that one out, and I think I own everything Gibson ever wrote.
And Aladdin’s Castle, ha! I haven’t been in one of those in years!
If I went back to 1984, what would I do? Buy gas. Lots of it.
Dude, Rockband killed me this weekend. 6 straight hours of drumming and I couldn’t make a fist for two days. Totally worth it. I was actually researching a sequel. Looking up stuff about Omni and what would be in that particular issue.
I couldn’t play it for 2 weeks because my leg was SO sore from the kick-drum. Finally picked it up again today and let it convince me, once again, that I am too white to have musical talent. And that beer and drums don’t mix.
Cool – Not played Rockband but I do hear that it is quite physical. And that beer and drums don’t mix you should try alcohol and karaoke in a live club… I’ve had a few disasters on songs that I really know too. ;) Checking sequel now.
