Very gripping and gritty. Jo is an interesting character, seems like the kind of man who doesn’t back down on his decisions. This is a good set-up for a series.
One minor correction – in the sentence, One word to describe it beautiful, I would add a colon or a dash before the last word, if you can spare the character space. This will help your reader better understand that sentence.

I’m going to try and push the boundaries with these works. I’ve not read good horror in awhile. I have an idea and want to see if I can pull it off.

Cool. I like this idea. But Satan isn’t a pussy. He’s totally awesome. I mean, have you seen Reaper? Ray Wise plays the guy so perfectly.
I agree with Ana’s critique about adding a dash before “beautiful.” Also, it should be “sell their soul” in the first line.

Although Reaper is my current favorite show, Satan does have his weaknesses. There are bound to be “unafflicted fiends” hither and yon throughout these parallels. ;)

I was trying to think what TV show this reminded me of and then I read John’s comments. It feels very Dexterish. Good start.
