Remembering My Secret
I watched him for a moment, and then had an idea, “Hey, Drew, do you want to come to church with me tomorrow?”
He froze for a second, and then turned to eye me quizzically, “Church?”
“Yeah,” I replied, “Just found one I really like. Church hunting can be as bad as house hunting. Which really isn’t a good thing, if you think about it.”
He stared at me for a moment, and then shrugged. I took this as a yes, “I’ll pick you up at 7 am then.”
His mom stared at me, I shrugged nonchalantly, not quite managing to hide my smug smile. I still hadn’t seen Drew smile, but at least I had him talking, if only a little bit. And that I could work with… or just let it go, I reminded myself, and see what happens.
I sipped some Ginkgo, trying to forget the earlier conversation. Well, at least it was good to have it partially out in the open now.
My secret.
At least now, someone knew something about it. I wondered if Drew suspected anything yet. Surely he’d noticed that they hadn’t met my parents? Maybe, maybe not.
