Under The Watch Of The Monkeys

There was noise. Haley looked around, covering her ears, and experienced one of the oddest moments of her nineteen years. She was totally surrounded by trees, and in every tree was, literally, a horde of monkeys, all chattering angrily at the stranger in their midst.

Haley was not becoming any less confused. As her eyes adjusted to the light, she saw three men staring at her. They were well-dressed, wearing three-piece suits. Before Haley had time to register anything more than the oddity of their dress, they were gone.

Haley’s first random thought was how this would affect her upcoming semester at school—even she saw how odd that thought was. “I’m alone in a jungle in an unfamiliar country, and my first thought is still school,” she said to herself. She realized that she didn’t know where she was, and she didn’t even know which way to go. Haley sighed and picked the biggest of the gaps between the trees. She started walking, leaving the monkeys still chattering in her wake.
