He knew that this shielding wasn’t completely foolproof, because there were times in the lives of the Others when their powers were temporarily multiplied. Still these were rare, occurring once or twice in a decade, and could not be directed. The chances of discovery were slim to none.

Gatagos had waited for a long time for the third power to condense into a form that they would be able to control and replicate. And he would be the one to carry it out! He would have the location of the power, and the person it was lodged in soon, and then he might very well be the first to receive this new power, as a reward for finding it.
