Arguments

“Christy! We have been worried sick wondering where you were! Have you realized that? Worried sick! And we find you out here with some boy?”

There were a number of things I could say to this. Like, wondering where I was? Try looking right out the window. But insteda I said, “Mom this isn’t some boy, it’s Jess. Remember my friend, Jess?”

Now is when my dad decides to step in, “Oh yeah, you’re friend. That’s why he has his arm around you.”

No way. No way did he just hint at that.

“What the heck dad-”

“Don’t you use that tone of voice with me young-”

“I was upset! He was conforting me! Which is something my parents are supposed to do. But they weren’t which is why my friend came to help!”

My parents walked back inside, disappointed.

I know that was a crappy thing to say, and they didn’t really deserve it, but I was too angry to feel guilty. I sat back down on the curb and mumbled, “I shouldn’t have said that…”

Jess sat back down next to me and hugged me. “I know, I know.”
