Sunset
They had come out to the beach for their six month anniversary. They hadn’t even known each other the first three years of high school, and now, nearing the end of their senior year, it seemed like a dream that was slowly piecing itself back into reality.
“You cold,” he asked timidly. He knew that too many questions got on her nerves, but he wanted to make sure she was comfortable. It was the chivalrous thing to do, and he thought himself a bit of a romantic.
“No, but thanks.”
They sat on the shoreline, the waves receding as the tide went out, and the sun dimming down across the horizon.
“You hungry?” She was the one thing that was going right for him, the one thing that had gone right for him all year, and he was afraid to give her up now.
“No…I…”
He looked over, and saw her biting her lip. He got nervous, the devil on his shoulder whispered a thousand fears, but he shooed it away.
“What? What’s wrong? Did I do-”
She cut him off.
“I’m pregnant,” she whispered, laying her head on his shoulder.
