Dad
I finished the letter and could feel my face getting hot. I sprinted up the stairs and held up the envelope.
“Try to guess who this is from.”
“Umm…” I could practically see the wheels in her head turning as she tried to come up with an answer that made sense. “Your secret lover?” She said jokingly.
“How about no? It’s from my dad. You know, the one my mom said was dead.”
Her jaw dropped and she stared at me in disbelief. “Don’t believe me? Fine then, read it yourself.” I said as I tossed the letter over to my bed, where she was still sitting in shock.
As she skimmed over the piece of paper I stared out the window wondering how on earth I could possibly work this one out.
When she finished reading we talked it over for a while and ended up deciding that I had to talk to my mom. So Neicy went home, and I was left in the house, alone with my thoughts. It was going to be a very long night.
