Itsy Bitsy Day
The itsy bitsy spider was having a really bad day. First, he climbed all the way up the water spout while the other spiders watched. There wasn’t much water these days, and everyone said it couldn’t be done. He would catch a fresh drink while they thirsted away.
But right when he neared the peak, it started raining, and washed him out. Everyone had been amazed at his near-success, but after that they could only laugh at his misfortune. Everyone went home while he cried.
Then the sun came out. His thin spidery skin quickly turned brittle as the heat beat down. It dried up all the rain pools around him. Soon he was thirsty again.
If it wasn’t one thing, it was another.
His anger transformed into resolve. That water spout would not beat Itsy Bitsy Spider!
No one was looking as he made the second attempt. No one would know that he conquered the spout. No one would know, because as he took a long, cool drag from the spout, a hungry sparrow flew by and ate him.
Maybe tomorrow would be a better day.
