CHAPTER 4 - HEARTBEATS

At the clinic

“Are you okay, Jay?” Josh asked Jane while stepping inside the clinic.

“She’s hyperventilating,” declared the nurse while getting asthma inhalers from the cupboard.

Indeed she was right. Jane was indeed hyperventilating. Jane had asthma, you see.

“I’m,” Jane started, breathing heavily each syllable, “O… Kay.”

“Hey,” Josh said. “Be careful.”

“Umm,” Jane said, blushing, suddenly forgetting her name,”O-okay.”

"Okay, see you later then, Jay!" Josh said while smiling.

Jane’s heart suddenly beat so loud I think the nurse must have heard her. That might explain why the nurse smiled at Jane’s direction at that moment.

At Dorm 211, Jane and Shane’s dorm

“I heard what happened!” Shane gushed.

“Yeah,” Jane said. “Sure you did.”

“Now she probably hates you.”

“Yeah. Jessica never liked me anyway in the first place,” Jane stated.

“You did it kid!” Shane said proudly.

“I did what?”

“You pissed off the teen queen!” Shane said matter-of factly.

“I guess I did”
