The rumors floated around but Jacob didn’t hear any of them. He really didn’t hear anything or see anything or feel anything. His parents worried and his friends worried but there was nothing they could do for him. There was nothing anyone could do. There was no way of restoring the meaning to his life because without Liz that’s what his life was. Meaningless. A total abyss, filled only with pain and loss and emptiness. There was no point. No point in continuing to live on without her. Everything that had brought him joy before, writing, reading, his trumpet, none of it could lighten the weight on his soul. Nothing helped, nothing eased the pain.

Jacob didn’t know what to do with himself. He had no direction, he was completely lost without her. But there was today. Today would bring a type of end.
