“Holden, I just… don’t know what to do anymore.” Scarlet looked across the table.
“What is there to do? He was very hurt by it.” he answered plainly. Her eyes flashed at him.
“Are you taking sides against me?” He seemed flustered, and his ears turned pink.
“Have you tried calling him?” he whispered back. “Maybe you should just show up, like he did…”
“That’s silly.” her eyes spelled mischief.
“Charlie? Charlie?” her voice faltered as she gazed at the mess before him. All around the room, papers and glass, bottles and plastic;strewn as far as she could see. God, Charlie, what happened? Scarlet prayed silently, as she made her way through the trash.
The police took down her name and asked her a few questions. “When…” once again, her voice broke, and tears slowly drifted down. The policeman shrugged his shoulders. I, no, the Porcelain Clown will find you, Charlie. I’ll search ‘til… ‘Til what? Scarlet inquired of herself. Until I find you…
