The title is a bit clunky. How about The Unbalanced Scale? You’d still keep the same idea and it would better match the great writing in this piece (and series).
I like the inner monologue in this. These are some very realistic questions that the narrator is confronting.

Yeah, I can see how Bonnie would pose a major threat to Annie. It’ll be a difficult scale to balance. That’s for sure.
