Nightmare Shadows
She was breathing quickly. Her breath fogged the window glass and blurred the image of the burning red eyes.
Hannie turned her back to them. Go back. the voice urged. She closed her eyes trying to think other thoughts, and get the voice out of her head. But all she could see on the inside of her eyelids were those glowing red eyes.
She screamed in frustration. Her mother came running into her room. “What is it honey?!!” A look of worry and fright for her daughter’s recent behavior glued on her face. She wrapped her arms around Hannie and whispered, “It’s okay. Mommy’s here. It was just a bad dream.”
“No.” gasped Hannie who was sobbing now, safe and confused her mother’s arms. “They were real! They were calling me!” She wept harder.
“Who, Hannie?” her Mother’s face showing real torment as her mind races.
“The shadows with red eyes!”
“Shadows, honey?”
“Mommy, will you sleep in here? Please?” Hannie begged. She hadn’t ever wanted her mother so much!
“Sure.” Her mother had tears glistening on her cheeks.
