Becca Turns the Tables

Sassy’s eyebrows knit in confusion or concern. Officer Milo couldn’t tell which. He leaned in closer to hear what Becca was saying, but Sassy pushed him away with an impatient shrug.

“What do you mean I broke your heart?” Sassy hissed.

There was a tiny sigh. “I thought we’d never let guys come between us. ‘Hoes before bros,’ and all that.”

Sassy smiled, remembering their grade school promise. “I never let a bro come between us, Beckie, you did.”

“But I was only going after Paul because you told me to! I never would have done it if I knew you still had feelings for him. If you’d just been honest with me instead of letting me know how you felt by rolling around like a dog in heat!”

Sassy cleared her throat, her face turning uncharacteristically beet red. “Ahem. Yeah. You have a point there.”

But Becca was just warming up. “And in the end, what do I get? I lost the guy I was really starting to like, Jameson!”

Then the line clicked and went dead.

“Sounds like you just got burned, home-skillet.”
