Don't Ask Me Why

Leyna smiled pleasantly at her reflection in the glass. Without hesitation, she unlocked the door and turned on the lights.
She had five minutes to collect her thoughts. It wouldn’t take long for someone to notice that the cafĂ© was open.

Leyna knew that Russell would call her at lunchtime. He’d give her the whole “just take your chances” speech, and the “all your life you’ve have to stand in line” mantra.

It wasn’t that she disliked being around people in a social setting…Okay, so maybe it is… She confessed silently. It is. Leyna threw her hands into the air helplessly.
“Russ, I’ll be there tonight,” she whispered into the receiver. “Don’t ask me why.”

Her five minutes were over.
