How?
The phone rang early the next morning. I rolled over in bed, checked the clock, 7:03, and answered the phone knowing no one else was home. “Hello?â?
“Yes, hi this is Sheryl from Catlett’s Coffee. I’m calling to discuss your skipping out on work the other day.â?
“Oh.â?
“Yes, well I’m sorry to say that you broke several codes and we are going to have to let you go. You can of course get your last check.â?
I was silently thinking about what I was going to do with myself now. I needed some hide-out from Jack.
“Sheryl, um is it possible for me to just do volunteer hours at the shop?â?
“Um yes I think we can arrange that. Come in at your usual time.â?
“Thank you.â? I sighed and hung up, lying back in bed. Today and the rest of the summer were going to be complicated. Now I just needed to talk to Trey without Jack knowing.
But how?
Maybe, just maybe, Trey can explain what’s going on.
