Jack smirked and replied, “Thanks … Sheryl.â? He read her name tag as she unhooked the short door at the counter. And then Jack was standing next to me, his presence unnerving.
“Kit why don’t you go and show this young man to the secret room.â? Sheryl winked like an idiot and I faked, matching her excitement. I so should not have volunteered.
I strolled slowly to the back rooms of the shop with Jack trailing me. I made sure I didn’t turn back to look at him because then I would surely freak or run or something. Inside the first door, I turned to him and began to explain it.
“Um so these are the—“ but his hand was over my mouth in an instant. Not again! He closed the door and we were in darkness. I began to search for the switch because in the light, everything is different. Jack didn’t give me a chance.
He dragged me to the back of the room, making sure my mouth was fully incapable. Jerk.
“You didn’t back up my story the other day. You’ll have to pay for that.â?
