The Letter

He walked down the stairs into the garage. He dug his keys from his pocket and jumped into his uncovered convertable. The engine roared to life and he sped out onto the empty road.

He drove mindlessly. He knew exactly where he was going. He had driven there too many times before.

He parked the car into an empty spot and just stared at the shore.

He could almost see her here, imagining her smile at him from a spot on the beach next to her surfboard.

He slid out of his car and walked to the spot he knew well.

The place right off the beach where the sun perfectly hit in the afternoons. It was private but with the ability to watch those passing by.

When he arrived there, he saw something unusual. A piece of paper pinned to a palm tree fluttered with the breeze. Shakily, he read the letter, almost dropping it from the beginning,

My Dearest Carter,
If you are reading this, I’ve already left. I’m sorry things had to end this way. I wanted it too work out more than you know…
