Daddy's Star

I heard some one approaching and sat up. It was just Quip. He sat down next to me and I layed back down. The stars seemed brighter when he was with me. I looked at his eyes wondering what he was staring at: they were directed at me. My face turned thirty-seven shades of red. I pointed to a cluster of stars.

“See that?” I asked him.

“Yea.” He answered.

“It’s what my dad called the heart. If you look closely you can see a heart in the center.” He stared up for a long time and I wondered if he’d been listening when he finally spoke.

“Impressive.” He said. “I see it now.”

“Yea. That’s the star my dad’s on right now. Just watching me. I’m gonna join him on it someday.”

“Not someday soon.” Quip said quickly.

“Definitely not soon. But someday…” He layed down next to me and took my hand.

“You really do miss him, don’t you?”

“Yea, I really do.” He squeezed my hand and stared at the stars with me. I knew he’d much rather do something else, but we were together and that’s all that mattered.
