I Want To Remember

“What’s that?” I ask. Mommy looks down at me and smiles.
“That’s a park Kegan.” She tells me.
“Park?” I repeat. She nodds.
We walk over to a bench.
“Can I go to the park with the other- the other-” I stop. I forget this word all the time.
“Kids.” She finishes for me.
“Yea, kids.” I look down trying to hide my face as it turns red. I think mommy called it blushing.
“Maybe later. Right now lets sit on the bench and wait for Becka and Chris.”

We walk to the nearest bench and sit. I watch quietly, not knowing what to say. This is only my third week being here with these people. I don’t know what to do.
Three people sit down next to mommy. She talks to them for a little bit. I listen and try to understand.

“Hi.” Some one says. I look into a girl’s face and turn away.
“It’s okay Becka.” Some one else says. “Kegan had an accident. He doesn’t remember you. Maybe he will someday.” I run to the swings.
“I’m normal!” I yell. “I didn’t have an accident! I’m just like you!” The others leave. I swing alone.
